The Thurgood Journal
The Thurgood Journal is a collaborative publication produced by the Journalism class and the Writing Club at Thurgood Marshall Middle School in Olympia, WA.
This platform serves as a dedicated space for student expression, showcasing the intersection of disciplined reporting and creative exploration. We curate and publish original work that reflects the diverse perspectives and talents of the TMMS student body.
What We Publish
We prioritize quality and originality across four primary categories:
- Creative Fiction: Short fiction
- Creative Nonfiction: Personal essays, memoirs, and narrative reflections
- Poetry: Poetry of any length
- Visual Art: Student-produced sketches, digital art, and photography
Our Purpose
The Thurgood Journal exists to provide a professional outlet for student voices. By combining the skillset of our journalism class’s editorial team with the creative output of the Writing Club, we foster an environment where creative risk-taking is encouraged and shared.
Every piece published is written by and selected by students at Thurgood Marshall Middle School.
If you’re interested in having your work published by online or in our first annual print edition, please email Mr. Wes at wmurry@osd.wednet.edu.
