“Fennec fox”, October 11th, 2025
“He’s almost born. We have to save him! We need to help him!”
“It’s the cutest fe-” I jumped out of the worker’s arms.
“Catch him!! Someone! How is he running so fast!?” I don’t fully know what happened at that moment, but I have some clue. I just ran off without knowing that I did. I was free…
I am a fennec fox. I am 5 months old now and I feel great. I have no family or friends still, but I will find some eventually. Maybe. Hopefully…
“It’s almost daytime, which means that I need to sleep when the sun comes out. I hate the sunlight. It’s like one of those random heat lights that some people install around my den. Before the daytime starts, I need to get some food. I find my food roaming around the desert. I found a gecko lying on the ground, so I grabbed it and put it back into my den.”
“The sun is showing its bright side now. I need to get in a safe spot away from the sun!” I thought to myself. I go into a little corner of the den where I am not in the sun. I get cozy and doze off…
…“We need to find that fennec fox!” a person said. “Oh no. This is bad. What am I going to do?!” I thought. I panicked and made a bunch of noise on accident.
“What was that??” someone said.
“Look in that den over there. He might be over there,” another person said.
I thought to myself. “I need to hide.” I look around for a good hiding spot in my den, but I don’t find a spot.
“I’ll just dig down and hide.” Right when I buried myself completely, I heard the people come into my den. My heart was pounding. I heard one of them say to dig underground until I’m found. When I heard that, I accidentally made noise again!
“I know where he is!”
I try to dig through this tunnel; as fast as I can, but they’re also really fast. I thought to myself, “They have such incredible strength! How do they dig so fast?! And they’re digging so quietly. I dig as loud as a dog barking.” I listen and dig at the same time. They are so close to me. I can hear the footsteps and shovels and their shouts. I dig and go on the surface of the desert. When I reached the surface, I jumped up in the air, and that was a bad idea. I got snatched mid-air. My life started flashing before my eyes. It was just me losing my friends… I got put into a bag where I couldn’t see anything in the outside world…
“We finally caught him. We should put him with his family now.”
I thought, “Stupid tranquilizer darts.” I just woke up, and the first thing that I hear is ringing. The first thing that I see is a blurry object of some sort, but then I hear voices. I heard the voices say something about family.
I get put into a glass box, and they bring me to a small desert habitat. I start growling and making noises at the workers. “Get me out of here!” But of course, they can’t understand me. “Stupid language. Stupid me.”
As I was looking around in the glass view, I saw it. The most beautiful view. My family. They bring me out of the glass box and put me into my habitat. It’s just like my old den.
I look around for the other fennec foxes, but I don’t see them anymore.
“Where could they have gone to?” I dig underground to look for them, but they aren’t down here either. “Hello? Where are you?” The 3 fennec foxes get out of their spot and greet me.
“Uhm. Hi. Are you my mother and Father?”
“Fjsoidkfjdkmifdklnvj” They said.
“What?” Apparently they don’t speak the language that any fennec fox is supposed to speak.
They started to say something, but I couldn’t understand it. I think they are speaking in english.
“Hgkjcookjfnuwejfndsjfjxnkfmdnfeuwfn.”
“Does anyone have a translater here?”
The workers start talking. “Sorry… uhm. Does he have a name?”
“No.”
“Sorry. We’ll translate this into your language. Ok?” At that point, I was so confused. I didn’t know what anyone was saying, and they don’t know what I’m saying either. I look up and see one of the workers pull out his phone. He opens up some translator app on it and translates the english into my language. The phone was like magic. It said something, but how?
“Hello. We are friendly people. This is your family. They can’t speak your language yet. They can only speak english.” What a crazy world we live in right now.
The translator kept on talking.
“You’re going to get an electronic device put on you so we always know what you are saying. Is that fine?” I want to say no, but, everyone will be able to understand me. I speak in my language once again. I said yes. They immediately grab me and put me into the same glass box. Once again, I start growling and making noises at them, but they won’t bring attention to me. It’s like they can’t hear me.
The workers said something again that I don’t understand, and they placed me down and walked into a building. It was the biggest one that I have ever seen.
I saw them walk out with new clothing. It was white and puffy and kind of loose on them. I was confused as to why they were wearing it. They grabbed the box that I was in, and carried me inside of the huge building. There were people wearing glasses and in black suits. I think the humans call them security guards. The people in the white, loose clothing put in a password on a keypad on door 930. The password was 7921989930514. I will remember that. Hopefully.
They walk me into the room. It was horrifying. They were people and animals in a lot of rooms, and the people were doing surgery on the animals. They’re purring that electronic device thing inside of the animals.
“I want to get out here right now!”
“Aw. The fennec fox is so cute.” the workers said.
“Humans…”
There are at least 3 people standing in front of a door waiting for me. The door number is #9278301. They quietly and slowly open the door to the room. When they open the door, I see a huge bed that they perform surgery on.
“Get me out of here!!” They grab me out of the box, place me on the bed, and put me to sleep before I can do anything about it…
(The workers pov.)
“Let’s get ready for this surgery, shall we?”
“Yes boss!” all of the workers said.
“Where are we putting the microchip boss?”
“We will put it in the brain.”
“Sir, that’s a very risky choice.”
“I don’t CARE! Get the microchip, AND LET’S GET THIS SURGERY STARTED!!”
“OK. Yes boss.”
(10 minutes later. Now starting again in the fennec fox’s pov.)
I wake up from my nap, and-
“What the… What did those workers do to me? I didn’t think they meant this.”
(The microchip automatically translates any kind of language into English for the workers and the visitors. The workers think that this is perfection, but the fennec fox has a plan.)
I whispered, “I have to say everything in my head now. Why did this happen to me?” I thought, “So, I have a plan to get out of here, and possibly the electronic device out of wherever it is. I will yell out to the visitors of this place and get their attention, then they will know all of the animals emotions and let us back into the wild, then we-” I looked around at all of the animals for a second, they seemed sad and alone, which is why I need to help them. I keep thinking to myself, “I need to get this plan started, but when? But then that’s when I heard it. The sound of a speaker. I can understand it now.
“The zoo will open now. Welcome back visitors!”
“This is a zoo?” I thought. “This is even better! Now I know that a lot of people will come to this place. When I see a lot of people near my exhibit, I will yell out to them and tell them my story and everyone else’s, and I know the perfect plan for that.”
Later in the day when the zoo closed, I made my move. I got out of my exhibit and walked to the huge building. I walk to door 930. Conveniently, there is a stool sitting in front of the door. I jump onto the stool and type in the password to get in. “7921989930514.” I whispered. The door automatically opened quietly. “The amount of force that that door had should not have made a quiet sound like that.” I walked through the doorway and went into the scariest hallway I have seen. A lot of the animals looked like they were really sad, but some of them looked crazy and looked like they were ready to jump off a cliff or something like that. But then I looked at one of the tables in one of the rooms and saw something.
“A pill? Are these people giving animals drugs? How did it not affect me?”
I look in the other rooms for anything else suspicious. It takes a long time to look into every single room. There are hundreds of rooms in this hallway. All of the rooms have the same pills.
I look in the final room in the hallway. Room #9278301. “This is the exact room that I was put in for my surgery.” I look in the room and I see no pills.
“This is confusing. My brain is being filled to the brim with all the information that I’m seeing and thinking. Why are there no pills on the table in my surgery room? Why are there pills in every other room? What does this mean? Why am I so smart right now? Am I going to solve this mystery? Why do the other animals have so many emotions but I don’t?” I find some thingamabob lying on the ground, so I grab it just in case I need it and I run as fast and quietly as I can out of the hallway and out of the building and into my exhibit and into my sleeping spot. I have work tomorrow.
In the morning, I hear the call from the speaker again. “The zoo will open now. Welcome back visitors!”
“Alright. Time to look at whatever this is.” I look at the numbers on the object, and it reads 4389842. “Does this have a relationship with the scary hallway in the huge building?” I decide to wait for the zoo to close again so I can see what is inside the hallway that this relates to.
(13 hours later)
“I need to go now.” I once again run as fast and quietly as I can out of my exhibit, through the zoo, into the building, take a break to type in the password on the keypad, go through the door, and I go into the hallway. I start walking again to look around.
“Wait a second. I think I saw something on the keypad while I was typing the password.” I ran back to look at the thing on the keypad. It had the same shape and size as the unknown object. On the replica of the unknown object that I was holding, it showed 7
numbers. 9278301.
“Oh no. Puzzles. I hate puzzles. Including the one that the hyenas gave me once.” I looked at the object that I was holding. It said, “3 objects. Find out which one is the correct one. The secret door will open, and there will be more secrets amongst us. “Bruh.”
I run quietly to room #9278301 and open up the door. Inside has a computer, a desk, and a bed for surgery on animals. I look at the computer. Nothing. I look on the surgery bed. Nothing. I look at the desk. Something. It has a secret keypad on the bottom of it. I looked on the right of the secret keypad because I thought it showed text. It did.
“Find the object on the original keypad and look around it. This will be the secret passcode to unlock this desk.”
“I hate this.” So I run back to the keypad and I look around it. It showed the secret passcode. 9403952. “I have to run back to the room again? I hate this so much.” I looked around it a bit more, and it showed the number that was on the thingamabob. This might be the numbered hallway! I run back to room #9278301 and type in that password. But when I pressed “confirm”, a trap door opened below me and I fell down.
I fell for a while. I kept looking around. Darkness. Everywhere. I think I’m dead, but after a while, I look down and see light, and a bunch of pillows. I land on the pillows and look around. It’s a bunch of animals that are stuck in here. I look around for any more clues and I see a keypad.
“Animal friends, I know how to get all of you out of here.” I read the thing on the keypad. It said, “This is the code to the original keypad that you used to get into the hallway. This door will lead you to the surface of the zoo. Good luck.” I run to the animals and say this. “I know the code to this keypad.”
“How is that possible?” a gorilla said.
“It’s a long story, but now you are going to be free. Here’s the plan…”
(5 minutes later)
We all climb up to the surface of the zoo and we run to the entrance and hide. We wait for the wake up call for the animals. We see so many people waiting at the entrance to get inside the zoo.
One of the workers said, “2 more minutes until opening time. Be patient visitors.”
“I think this is the time to tell everyone our story.”
“We have to stay hidden though.” the gorilla said.
“Ok. So we have to not move at all. Let’s hope this works.”
“Greetings visitors of this zoo. We are animals that have a story to tell all of you. These workers give us drugs so we don’t do stuff like this, but I wasn’t an animal who consumed the drugs. They take us away from our families, they change us completely, they hid some animals below the zoo, they torture us with their, tools. There are so many reasons why we don’t need to belong here. Just look around in nature and find other animals to look at. Not the endangered and exotic animals. In conclusion, make these kidnappers, or in this case, animal nappers, release us back into the wild and leave us alone.”
“I’m sorry wherever you are, but we’ll let the judge decide this for us.
Bang! Bang! Bang! “Order in the court!”
I don’t have a lawyer because I’m an animal, but some people volunteered to be my lawyer for this case. Me and my lawyer are hoping to sue this zoo for the illegal actions that they have done on the animals. The defendant is the boss of the zoo and his lawyer. The jury is the gorilla.
The gorilla starts speaking. “I have had the worst experience than any other animal at this zoo. They performed surgery on me to put a microchip inside of my heart. I have no clue why. But next, what happened was that they locked me inside of a really tight space under the zoo. I was isolated there for almost 2 years. I barely had any more food and water for me to live off of, but then this fennec fox came into the underground zoo cage. He saved my life and every other animal that was trapped down there. They ran away because they didn’t want to live the pain and misery of being in that zoo. Thanks Judge!” He sat down hoping that the judge would take this statement and ban the zoo, but the boss of the zoo had other plans.
“May I speak, judge?” The judge nodded his head and the boss stood up.
“None of those statements are true. These animals got a microchip put in them so they could talk like humans and understand any language, except the animal language. We hope to change the future of animals.” I was looking at the boss with a confused expression as he sat down. Then, the judge said something.
“Whoever wants the zoo to be banned, say aye.”
“Aye!” everyone said.
“Thanks to legal action, we will arrest the boss of the zoo, and we will now find this case dismissed!” Bang! Bang! Bang!
It was over. We won!
Everyone walked out of the building with a smile on his face except for the boss of the zoo. He was being put into a cop car. I look around at the beautiful nature outside of the zoo, but then I see the judge walking up to me. He tries to say something, but he pauses and waits.
“Do you have a name?”
“No. I want to have a name though.”
“Your new name is Xavier.”
I have a name now? I never thought that this day would come. “What does it mean?”
“It means Savior.”
“Cool!”
I take a deep breath and walk back to my den. I sit down and I think.
“Hi! I’m Xavier…”
